IAC/NAACOS Risk Contracting and Operating Cost Survey: September 2022
In September of 2022, The Institute for Accountable Care in collaboration with NAACOS sent a survey to all 2022 MSSP ACOs to collect data on value-based contracting across all payers and about operating costs incurred for population health (across all payers) and traditional Medicare (MSSP only). We received responses from 100 organizations that reported 15.5 million lives under management. Compared with prior NAACOS surveys we found a substantial increase in the number of ACOs with value-based contracts across multiple payers and the extent of downside risk reported. The rate of growth in covered lives was particularly high in Medicare Advantage although the largest proportion of contracts with downside risk were reported in the MSSP.
